A Safe Place to
Heal, Connect & Grow
At Arukah, we believe healing begins with being heard — and no one should have to struggle alone.
We are more than a behavioral health clinic, a service, or a name. We are a safe space in your community — a welcoming, judgment-free doorway to understanding, support, and mental health transformation.
OUR MISSION IS SIMPLE BUT POWERFUL:
To deliver compassionate, accessible mental health and wellness care that inspires hope, promotes healing, and renews lives — reaching individuals and families in our rural communities — anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Our approach is ROOTED in rural Illinois communities — authenticity, compassion, and connection.
We bring together expert clinicians, culturally competent care, and evidence-based practices, but we lead with humanity. We understand that TRUST is earned — and we work every day to build it through transparency, empathy, and results that matter.
Arukah is a place where people find help and clarity. Where people heal. Where stigma is replaced with strength.
[AR – OO – KAW’]
healing of a wound, restoring to wholeness, recovery, repair, perfected, the new flesh that grows at the wounded spot
Our symbol, the cross-section of a tree, reflects this philosophy. Just as a wounded tree forms a protective capsule around its injury—preventing decay and enabling reinforced growth outward—Arukah helps clients heal by surrounding their wounds with truth, love, and grace. This process prevents the decay of self and creates freedom for new personal growth.
OUR STORY
ARUKAH WAS ESTABLISHED TO IMPROVE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES
FOR RURAL POPULATIONS
Arukah Institute of Healing, Inc. NFP was founded in 2017 by Dr. Sarah Scruggs, who recognized the shortage of accessible mental health care in local rural communities. Rural areas face disproportionately high rates of suicide, drug overdose deaths, and untreated persistent mental illness; yet the behavioral health workforce in these areas remains severely limited.
Arukah stands as a place of hope, healing, and renewal.
Arukah was established to reduce behavioral health disparities for rural populations. Its founding mission was to promote healing through evidence-based practices. The organization exists to confront the unique challenges and barriers that exist in rural communities, while fostering a culture that supports the whole person. We envision a future where behavioral health care is accessible, affordable, stigma-free, person-centered, data-informed, and rooted in an appreciation for everyone’s story.
